UUSGS uses monthly themes to guide our worship & programs.  This allows us a deeper dive into important 'big ideas' than if we were to plan only week to week.  Most months, we decide on these themes as part of a collective, congregations like ours working together to share resources.  However, our partners take a break in the summer.  And so we want YOUR input on which 'big ideas' should be our focus for July & August.

A few years ago, we made a quiet commitment to begin moving to a year-round approach, instead of the "take the summers off" approach favored by many New England UU congregations.  There are a few strong reasons to support this:

  • The communal needs of existing members are often more during the summer, not less.  This is especially true if you have children or dependent adults.
  • Many new people "church shop" over the summer because of the timing of moves, school, etc.

In the past, temperature was a real issue at UUSGS.  But we're happy -- SO happy! -- to say that this is being addressed in our capital campaign via the addition of air conditioning in our sanctuary.  Pretty cool, right?  (See what I did there...?)

Sunday services this summer will be very similar in format to our services throughout the year.  Of course, as always, we welcome suggestions, voices, Worship Associates and more as we take these steps together.

Onward, towards summer!
