Martin Luther King, Jr. made this quote famous during his Civil Rights speeches... but the original source was a 19th-century abolitionist Unitarian named Theodore Parker. For centuries, Unitarian Universalists have cared deeply about social justice. So much so that our ideas about religion are indistinguishable from our ethics; our beliefs and our actions are powerfully intertwined; social action is a form of spritiual practice.
Today, we use different langauge. The inherent worth and dignity of every person. The intedependent web of life. Restoring wholeness by challenging inequality and collaborating in creating peace.
The mission of UUSGS, as expressed by its members, is the free and unrestricted development of the human spirit for the good of all. This calls us both to dismantle barriers to health and wholeness and also to build around love and right relationship.
Each year, the congregation charters ministry teams who organize to advance the congergation's ministry of social justice. Current-year ministry teams are included in the list to the left.
