Rainbow Connections
(Mixed Paper, Foil, Acrylics)
This month's art installation draws inspiration from the beloved children's stories Swimmy and The Rainbow Fish, both of which remind us that our greatest strength and beauty emerge in relationship with one another. Schools of brightly colored fish move together in the space, suggesting a community where each individual is celebrated and contributes something unique while becoming part of something larger. Like Swimmy gathering many small fish into a single magnificent whole, the installation celebrates the power of flourishing together.
Interwoven among the rainbow colors are silver mirrored surfaces. At first glance, they may seem colorless, but they come alive by reflecting the colors around them. In this way, the silver elements become a metaphor for community itself: we are shaped by one another, carrying and amplifying the gifts, joys, and brilliance of those around us. Just as the Rainbow Fish discovers that beauty grows when it is shared, the mirrored pieces reveal that none of us creates the full spectrum alone.
Together, reflecting and receiving one another's light, may we become more vibrant, more connected, and more colorful, beautiful, and powerful than any of us could be on our own.
