"Curiosity will conquer fear even more than bravery will." — James Stephens
"The cure for boredom is curiosity." --- Dorothy Parker
Wow... a cure for boredom and fear?! Why then, in mainstream religious thought, is so little made of curiosity? Is this oversight, or is it by design?
For the inquisitive mind, curiosity is a foundational practice. Whether in science or in religion -- or in relationships and history -- curiosity is a doorway to deeper understanding.
This morning, we'll continue our exploration of curiosity by being cuious not only about what is in front of us but also about what came before. Curiosity invites us to direct our wonder downstream toward the future but also upstream toward the past, the winding path through generations that has delivered us to where we are today. Curiosity as spiritual practice can open up narrow narratives and root us in deep appreciation of the present.
Curiosity has shaped our tradition in important ways. Rev. Jason & Worship Associate Jackie Shanti will invite us to consider how we got to where we are today, individually and collectively.
