"My experience is what I agree to attend to. Only those items which I notice shape my mind." -- William James

This morning, we begin a new monthly theme... and wow, is it ever relevant!  Paying Attention is our theme for March.

Recent studies have clocked our median attention span at about 40 seconds, down from two and a half minutes 20 years ago.  Prominent writers have dubbed this "the Attention Age." There is plenty of blame to go around (social media, screens, marketing, etc.) and all kinds of snake oil for sale as a quick fix.  But let us first consider the implications of attention for spirituality.

In a world of noise, how do we focus on what truly matters?  In a society hell-bent on screaming, how are we called to listen?  How are we called to perceive of ourselves and others?  Very little can change a person's life more than having someone truly pay them attention.  What gets in the way?

The still small voice within still calls to us, if only we are inclined to listen...
