Meeting Location:

Greenleaf Park, Springfield, MA

Entrance to large parking lot at Barnett & Vincent Streets

Time:

Gather at the picnic tables next to the splash pad at 9:30am. For those who wish to explore the park’s trails, we will leave at 9:45am.

This Week’s Hosts:

Rachel and James Fiore

What to expect:

Greenleaf Park offers an accessible mix of paved and gravel paths, benches along the main walking paths, 2 of Springfield’s newest playgrounds, a splash pad, and spacious fields to enjoy. If it’s a hot morning, come prepared for the likelihood the kids will enjoy the splash pad. The wide paved paths are a great opportunity for bikes, skates, scooters, and boards. We will bring a few extras and the helmets we have but feel free to bring your own if you have them.

In anticipation of an upcoming family ministry garden project, Rachel and James would like to invite participants over to tour their edible garden after our outing at Greenleaf Park. It is under 2 miles north of the park. This would in part be an introduction to the idea of planning and planting a garden of native pollinators and edible plants where the ramp used to be on the second floor of UUSGS. Let’s see how excited our kids could get about creating a children’s garden welcoming native pollinators, birds, plants, and other wildlife. We will let them explore our yard, hopefully enjoy some ripe fruit and brainstorm what they would like to see in a garden they build together.

What to bring:
Sunhat, sunscreen, bugspray, water, snacks, and bathing suits or fast drying clothes for those wishing to enjoy the splash pad.”

Summer is great time to be outdoors together! Join other families on Saturday outings as we move our bodies and appreciate the great beauty of nature that surrounds us. If you would like to lead a hike please contact Darcie Farber or Erin Placey. Hike leaders provide the meet-up time, place, and brief description of what to expect. (They also will be responsible for deciding about weather cancellations by 6pm Friday.)

Contact Darcie Farber (darcie@uuspringfield.org, 413-736-2324) or use member access to information on Breeze if you need to reach the Hike host.
