A family favorite! Our early service on Christmas Eve once again is pageant-style, intentionally oriented toward families with younger children. The timeless story will be told for - and by - children, with a lens toward UU values of Interdependence, Pluralism, Justice, Transformation, Generosity, and Equity, and centered on LOVE.
Things to Know and Bring!
- This service is especially designed with younger children in mind. Children and adults are invited to participate through puppets, costumes, props, and songs and a “pageant parade” that ends on stage in a “stable tableau”. Families are invited to come a few minutes early to pick out supplies.
- Sensory Considerations: We will sing “Silent Night” in battery-operated candle light (please prepare children for it to be darker). Our service, being participatory in nature, may become a little boisterous and have some controlled chaos/celebration (please know that if you or your child need to step out you will still be able to hear the service at a lower volume in Friendship Hall). Children (and adults) will be invited to move through the space - if you would like/need accommodations to make this accessible for you please contact darcie@uuspringfield.org.
- Families are invited to bring cookies or simply-to-serve & eat holiday treats to share after the service. Please label things that are made with nuts, dairy, or are gluten-free, vegan, etc.
- A special couple from the North Pole is scheduled to make an appearance after the service! Children will be invited to approach and interact with them in a designated area of Friendship Hall.
