Simon Brighenti and his wife Maria have attended UUSGS since 2018. Subsequent to retiring after a 30-year career as a real estate lawyer, Simon’s first exposure to UUSGS and UU was when he was cast in a small part in The Diary of Anne Frank, a production of the Unity House Players. Through that experience he met several members of UUSGS and at once felt at home. The acceptance of all people wherever they are on their spiritual path and an enlightened approach to human relationships have always been important values to both Simon and Maria and has been a valued aspect of their involvement with UUSGS and UU.
Simon grew up in West Springfield and had been a congregant of Catholic Churches in that town. His wife Maria had immigrated from her home country of Italy in the early 1970’s and they settled in West Springfield until they recently moved to East Longmeadow. Simon has been a member of the Board of Directors of the West Springfield Agawam Parish Cupboard for 10 years. The Cupboard provides hot lunches to individuals and families who are unhomed or in transition along with grocery items for families in need. He has also been a member of the West Springfield Rotary Club for 20 years and as a Rotarian has been involved in humanitarian and relief efforts as near as his hometown and as far away as India and South America. Simon is a history buff and enjoys trivia and humorous wordplay. Simon and Maria enjoy traveling in Europe and the US, have a son Antonio and a daughter Amelia and a rescue pup Skipper.
