Summer is great time to be outdoors together! Join other families on Saturday outings as we move our bodies and appreciate the great beauty of nature that surrounds us. If you would like to lead a hike please contact Darcie Farber or Erin Placey. Hike leaders provide the meet-up time, place, and brief description of what to expect. (They also will be responsible for deciding about weather cancellations by 6pm Friday.)
Contact Darcie Farber (darcie@uuspringfield.org, 413-736-2324) or use member access to information on Breeze if you need to reach the Hike host.
Meeting location: Enders State Forest, CT route 219, between West Granby and Barkhamsted (41.95466° N, 72.87824° W)
Time: Meet in the parking lot at 9:30. We will start walking at 9:45, but the trail is less than a mile in total length. You won’t have any trouble finding us if you come a little later.
Host: Teddy Welsh
What to Expect: a mix of trail surfaces - including gravel, worn dirt paths, and steps made of stone and wood. The gravel road is moderately graded, but the (short!) trails and (longer) steps are steep. The steps have well-maintained, very sturdy handrails. Forest, stream, waterfalls, and some small, easily accessed wading pools at the bottom of the steps. Facilities are one accessible portapotty that may not have toilet paper. Teddy will lead a basic loop (or maybe an even simpler out-and-back), but feel free to stay and explore as long as feels good to you!
What to Bring: Sunscreen, bug spray, toilet paper and hand sanitizer, water, snacks, and optional water shoes/clothing/towels.
