DESCRIPTION:Among Aesop's fables is one where children are squabbling and a
wisdom figure uses a bundle of sticks to show them the power of working t
ogether.  A modern re-telling uses matches to tell the same story: one is
easy to break\, but a bundle is much stronger!\nMuch of what we're told a
bout human nature is rooted in the individual.  But we are social creatur
es by nature\, as well.  We rely on one another.  \nNaming human nature
as individual (as is often done) exalts the value of individual freedom.
Naming human nature also as social -- or interdependent -- exalts other
values like responsibility and accountability.  And the kind of joys that
can only be found in community.\nThis morning's message will be offered b
y Rev. Jason and Hashim Benford\, whose background in community organizing
informs a deeply rooted approach to human nature.  \nLet's find our feet
again this morning on the rock of universal love!\n---------\nWorship Lea
