Finding & keeping your balance in the spiritual practice of caring for children.

Parenting is hard work.  It can be amazing, transformative, joy-filled work, too.  But it isn’t easy.  Good company helps.  UUSGS is pleased to offer two opportunities to help parents find and keep their balance.

The Parenting Connection typically meets on the third Wednesday of every month, from 6:30 to 7:30PM, following Soulful Supper.  (Please check the congregational calendar to confirm exact meeting dates/times.)  Facilitated by Nancy Francisco – UUSGS member and Certified Professional Coach – each meeting is a time for busy parents and guardians to slow down and bring presence, connection and calm to their lives.   Meetings often focus on celebrating what is working… but there is also time and opportunity to ask the group for ideas or support.  Free childcare is available.  (Registration required.)  The UUSGS Parenting Support Group is free and open to all.  Nancy is also available to work with parents and families individually.  For more about Nancy, you may view her website here.

The Mindful Parenting Group meets to support learning about and practicing more peaceful ways of parenting.  The group will facilitate positive and affirming discussion using a variety of parenting resources based on both neurological and psychological research. It will focus on mindfulness, connection, and non-punitive discipline strategies. Its goal is to support families in their efforts to raise emotionally intelligent, self-disciplined, confident, kind and loving people.  Longtime UUSGS member Rachel Fiore facilitates this group.  Rachel is a mother of two small children as well as a step-mother and a grandma. While in search for ways to manage her young childrens’ most challenging behaviors, she found these resources to be effective, practical, and in harmony with her UU values. She also found herself calmer during stressful situations with her children and enjoying being present with them more. She is holding this group for parents looking specifically for this kind of support.  This group will meet on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30PM following Soulful Supper. (Please check the congregational calendar to confirm exact meeting dates/times.)
